A Blossom in the Darkness

The Festivals are over and the moon of the month of Tishrei is waning. The days in the Galilee are getting shorter and the nights are longer.

As the darkness of winter in Israel approaches we are being enveloped by an onslaught of spiritual darkness.

jerusalem-palestin_2961746bArab teenagers nurtured in a culture of death seek out to slaughter innocent Jewish souls on their way to pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the Western Wall.

For over 3300 years, God has presented us with a choice,

“… I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your generations after you may live,”

Deuteronomy 30:19

We, Am Yisrael, the Jewish People choose life.

I stepped out onto our front porch today and was shocked by what I saw. As the autumn is moving toward winter, the last fruits of the season are falling from the trees.

But there in front of me, defiantly stood a fresh bright red pomegranate blossom. It’s not supposed to happen until next spring! Six months from now.

Perhaps it’s a physical sign that the Almighty wants us to see the blessings and continue to choose life no matter how much we are surrounded by and attacked by death and darkness.
